Filters: The Lens which we view the world through

To filter is to pass through a device to remove unwanted material.

Our perception of the world is shaped by filters, which are the unique lenses through which we interpret everything around us. These filters can be influenced by a variety of factors including our upbringing, culture, education, personal experiences, and even our emotional state at any given moment. Just as a camera filter can alter the appearance of a photograph by enhancing certain colors or blurring others, our mental filters can highlight particular aspects of reality while downplaying or obscuring others. This means that two people can experience the same event yet come away with entirely different interpretations and feelings about it.

Filters are not just used on social media. There's also a need to filter what comes through your five gates or your senses. Every day, our minds are bombarded with countless stimuli—sounds, sights, smells, tastes, and sensations that has the power to affect how we feel and what we think. These gates protect that pure inner-being that is attached to your consciousness, conscience, thoughts, emotions, and even your will.

Filtering what we experience can help us maintain a sense of balance and well-being. By being selective about the information and sensory input we allow into our lives, we can better manage stress, cultivate positive emotions, and foster a healthier mental state.

For instance, consider the sounds we encounter daily. Choosing to listen to calming music or nature sounds rather than constant noise or negative news can create a more serene environment. Similarly, the visuals we surround ourselves with—whether it's art, nature, or the content we consume online—can significantly impact our mood and outlook on life.

Smells, often overlooked, also play a crucial role in our emotional well-being. Aromatherapy, with scents like lavender or eucalyptus, can promote relaxation and mental clarity. The taste of our food, too, can be a form of self-care; nourishing our bodies with wholesome, delicious meals can elevate our spirits.

Touch is an incredibly powerful sense. The comforting embrace of a loved one, the softness of a favorite blanket, or even the feel of a gentle breeze can provide a sense of safety and joy.

By consciously filtering our input, we can create a more positive and harmonious inner world. Being deliberate and intentional of our environment enables us to thrive even in the midst of chaos and helps us to focus on what truly matters.
